Migs asked:
A long time ago i bought a pair of 8x30 military binocs that were made in west Germany, so its obviously pre 1990 or so. But the weird thing is that they are black, not the olive drab that most military models are? A friend said that they might be the pilots model, but I cant find them anywhere online. Does any body know what they are and what their value is?
Reply:
There are Steiner binocs that are black they are generally not marketed as military spec optics. However there are a few models from Steiner that are black and classed as "Navigational" so your friend may be on to something. As far as value goes there are Steiner Models comparable to yours pricing from $699-$999 but are green.
I would recommend contacting Steiner directly to see if your binocs are valuable or not.

Steiner Merlin 8X32 binocular have brown armored finish, and bright optics. Will fit in pocket of turkey vest.
The Steiner 8×30 Wildlife Pro CFs look interesting. I like the added centre focus. Nice touch!
